Back in 1999, Deep7 Press (then known simply as Deep7) began operations with a rules-lite, downloadable line of “beer & pretzels” roleplaying games. The rules were simple enough to fit on a single page, hence 1PG, a blend of “RPG” and “1-page”. The fact that the 1PGs were downloadable caused some consternation among players at the time, as purely electronic products were in their infancy. Eventually, as acceptance grew, Deep7 partnered with DriveThruRPG for electronic fulfillment.
The line was intended for quick, casual, pick-up play, with each one-page scenario lasting two to three hours, and largely disposable characters. Each title was modeled on a movie or television genre, from horror to scifi, to westerns, espionage, war films, and swashbuckling pirate movies. Later titles included Hong Kong action cinema, pulp adventure, sword & sandals epics, anime, silver-age comics, and more.
The line went through two revisions before 2004, when the entire line was given a third edition by line producer James Stubbs. Incidentally, James also ran Heyoka Studios, which published licensed 1PG supplements. Although popular, the 1PG line took a backseat to higher-profile premium titles, like Red Dwarf, Arrowflight, and Airship Daedalus. It would be another 20 years before a new edition was released.
Which brings us to 2024, the 25th anniversary of the 1PG line, and the rollout of 1PG 4th Edition. Over the course of 2024 and beyond, we’ll be releasing updated versions of the classic 1PG titles with a shiny new task resolution system, new art, and extra flavor. And there are new titles planned for the line as well!
You can find direct sales links to the 4th edition 1PGs here (just look for the titles labeled “Fourth edition!“). We’ll update as the revised titles are released throughout the year, and beyond.
